What is Domain Name System (DNS)?

The Domain Name System (DNS) is a database that keeps records of website and IP addresses. In which the domain name and IP address of the website is stored. Eg - ( Contact name and mobile number in phonebook in your mobile. ) Domain Name System maps the name that people use to locate that website. When people search for a website name, it reaches the IP address associated with that website name.

DNS stands for Domain Name System. It is a TCP/IP protocol used on various platforms. Which translates domain name to IP address. This allows users of the network to use user-friendly names when discovering other hosts, instead of having to remember IP addresses.

Web browsing and other Internet activities rely on DNS to connect users to remote servers or hosts and to provide needed information quickly.

For example, if someone types "example.com " into a web browser, a server behind the scenes maps that name to a website located at the corresponding IP address "203.0.113.72 ". And that website opens.
